Dear Sir John

I am much obliged to you for informing me about the school, of which I had heard nothing for a long time.— I shall be extremely glad to attend the Vestry, & give the scheme my cordial support in that, and in any other way.— I have always heard that the late Sir John Lubbock was much interested in schools; & I do not think a more noble memorial could possibly be made to anyone, than by a school for the poor.1

John William Lubbock, 2d Baronet, had died in 1840. John William Lubbock, 3d Baronet, had been a member of the committee of the Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge from 1829 and was active in promoting the education of the poor.
