To J. D. Hooker   [4 July 1860]1

Sudbrook—

Wednesday

My dear Hooker

I have just received your note saying that you could see me on Thursday, but were going to London at 11 or 12. But I have just this minute heard joyful news that Etty has been moved to Hartfield—& was safe & comfortable in bed, though much exhausted.2 Hence I shall stay here till Saturday Morning. If I do not hear I shall understand that you will be at home on that morng between 11 & 1. If you cannot see me then, I would come earlier on Friday

God Bless you | My dear Friend | C. Darwin

This was the Wednesday following CD’s letter to J. D. Hooker, [3 July 1860].
Emma Darwin took Henrietta Emma Darwin and the other children to Hartfield on 3 July 1860 (Emma Darwin’s diary).
