To J. D. Hooker   4 April [1861]

Down Bromley Kent

Ap. 4th

My dear Hooker

I have been confined to bed; otherwise I shd. have written yesterday to have thanked you for your note about poor dear Henslow.—1 In two or three days do let me have literally one line. If he is well enough tell him how gratefully & affectionately I shall love & honour him to the day of my death.—

Ever yours | C. Darwin

Hooker’s letter has not been found. He was staying at the home of his father-in-law, John Stevens Henslow, who was seriously ill.
