To John Lubbock   10 August [1861]

2. Hesketh Crescent | Torquay

Aug 10th

My dear Lubbock

I heard from Mr Hacon this morning; & he with some hesitation advised acceptance. In fact we had made up our minds, from what you said, that unless Mr H. had been vehement against acceptance, to accept; so I telegraphed to him to write by this day’s post to Mr. Atherley our submission & acceptance. So I hope from the bottom of my heart that all is settled.1

Ever yours truly obliged | Ch. Darwin

CD was attempting to finalise the arrangements for William Erasmus Darwin to enter into partnership with George Atherley in the Southampton and Hampshire Bank (see letter to John Lubbock, [2 August 1861]).
