To John Lindley   17 November [1861]1

Down. | Bromley. | Kent. S.E.

Nov. 17th

My dear Lindley

I must just tell you that Lady Dorothy has written me one of the most obliging notes, I ever received, & has sent a lot of orchids now on the road!2 I used your name—

Yours very sincerely | C. Darwin

The year is given by the reference to CD’s correspondence with Dorothy Fanny Nevill (see letter to D. F. Nevill, 19 November [1861], and letter to D. F. Nevill, 12 November [1861]).
Lindley had suggested to CD that he write to Nevill with regard to obtaining rare foreign orchids (see letter to D. F. Nevill, 12 November [1861]).
