From Hugh Falconer   3 October 1862

British Association For The Advancement of Science. | Cambridge Meeting, 1862.

3d. Ocr.

My Dear Darwin.

On Saturday last—the 27th—on the receipt of your note,1 I posted to you— addressed to you—to Down near Bromley—a heavy letter containing some folio m.ss. in a large paid cover—4d postage.2

Not having heard from you, I am afraid it may have miscarried.

Did any such letter reach you. | Yours very Sinly | H Falconer

CD’s letter has not been found.
Falconer refers to his letter to CD of 24–7 September [1862], with which he sent a portion of the manuscript of a paper on fossil and living species of elephant (Falconer 1863). For CD’s favourable reaction to Falconer’s work, see the letter to Hugh Falconer, 1 October [1862].
