From Francis Walker   6 July [1838]

My dear Sir

I have been too dilatory in answering your kind letter. I am much obliged for your suggestions respecting the deficiencies in my indications of the localities of the species. I wish much to supply these & other imperfections in my descriptions, but I cannot venture to publish on the Chalcidites at my own expence, & the subject is too unpopular to be readily received into periodical works. As soon as I have leisure I will obtain the loan of your Specimens, & answer your queries fully. Meanwhile I will just state that with a few exceptions the Chalcidites of S. America, & also those of Australia are remarkably like the European species, many of them are very nearly allied to the British species, & 2 or 3 are absolutely identical with the latter.

Believe me my Dear Sir | Yours very truly | Francis Walker July 6.th
