My dear Sir

I send by this day’s the 2nd & 3rd sheets of vol. 2.2 I hope you are making good progress in your dull & laborious undertaking.3 My object in writing now is to ask you whether vol. 1 will be published separately before vol. 2? In this case, I shd be much obliged if you wd give me the name & address of the publisher in Paris as I have mislaid it.

Pray forgive me for troubling you & believe me | with much respect | yours very faithfully | Charles Darwin

The year is established by the relationship between this letter and the letter from J. J. Moulinié, 25 November 1867.
CD refers to proof-sheets of Variation. The sheets were probably for Variation 2: 1–32.
Moulinié was translating Variation into French (see letter from J. J. Moulinié, 3 May 1867).
