My dear Darwin

I must send you and Mrs. Darwin my sincere congratulations on the position your son has taken at Cambridge—1 I know what especial gratification it must be to you from your own Connection with the University—2 It is the more valuable this year from the Senior Wrangler being so superior that his position was said to be certain some time before3—& from the general opinion there that it would be a very good year—

I hope the good news has helped to give you a fresh stock of health and spirits.
