Hochgeehrtester Herr,

Leider ist mir Ihr letztes Werk, das Sie mir in Ihrem werthen Briefe vom 2. März anzukündigen so gefällig waren, noch nicht zugekommen, hoffe aber es baldigst zu erhalten.2

Einstweilen wurde ich von mehreren Seiten ersucht, es zu übersetzen ins italienische, um so mehr als ich in Verbindung mit Salimbeni, das erste Werk übersetzt habe.3

Ich habe mich nun dazu entschlossen und wende mich desshalb an Sie, mit der Bitte, mir die Erlaubniss der Übersetzung geben zu wollen. Indem ich den Empfang Ihres geehrten Schreibens vom 15 April bestätige,4 zeiche ich mich mit der aufrichtigsten Hochachtung | Ihr ergebenster | Prof. Joh. Canestrini

Most esteemed Sir,

You kindly announced in your letter of 2 March that your most recent work is on its way. Unfortunately it has not arrived yet but I hope it soon will.2

In the meantime a number of people have asked me to translate it into Italian, especially as I translated your first book in association with Salimbeni.3

I have now decided to do so and therefore I am approaching you with the request to grant me the rights for the translation. Confirming the receipt of your esteemed letter of 15 April,4 I remain with the most sincere respect
