Hochgeehrter Herr

In grösster Hochachtung zeichnet | Ihr ergebenster | Dr. M. Wilckens. | Gutsbesitzer.

Mr Charles Darwin | in | Down Bromley Kent

Most esteemed Sir

I venture to enclose two little pieces of research of mine, an earlier one, which discusses your “on the origin of species etc.”, as well as an annual report on the scientific advances in animal husbandry, which critically reviews your work translated by Carus from the perspective of animal husbandry.2 I ask you to confirm its arrival and hope that an opposing view of this subject will not be unwelcome to you.

I remain with the greatest respect | Your most devoted | Dr. M. Wilckens. | esquire.
