From Erasmus Alvey Darwin   1 April [1870?]1

1 Ap.

Dear Charles

In selling you only pay Brokerage, & I have looked at two sales in my accts when the Broke was 12[per cent] Bk on £2533.6.8. on the selling price.

Your financial operations excite my envy beyond words. The L & N W2 are issuing 4[per cent] Deb Stock & you get it free of all charges, but pay the interest that has accrued & so receive the half years interest entire.

Yours ED

The year is conjectured from a pencil note on the letter.
London and North Western Railway Company. CD sold his stock in this company in 1852 (CD’s Investment book (Down House MS)).
