From E. A. Darwin   13 September [1871]1

13 Sept

Dear Charles

I have not yet looked in Box but I will put a P.S to say the shares are sent. Will you let me know what the 5 shares cost as that does not appear in my mem: and I will enter it.2 I am very sorry you have had this fuss, but I must just have put the Certif into the Box and in the dark cellar it is not easy to arrange papers & I quite forgot there were two sets of shares. When this transaction is finished you had better send me a joint letter which I will place with the other which is dated Aug 30/713

Something in this form which will explain it to the Exors4

The year is established by the relationship between this letter and the letter from E. A. Darwin, 12 [September 1871].
