To W. H. Flower   13 October [1871]1

Down, | Beckenham, Kent.

Oct 13th.

My dear Mr Flower

I thank you sincerely for your very kind letter,—2 I am sure that I have always found you most goodnatured in giving me information, but I did not know whether I might not be trespassing too far. The best & safest plan, from what you say, will be to strike out all about the larynx in the Cetaceans, which I have done.—3 Yours truly obliged | Ch. Darwin

The M.S. has come just at the right time for me.

The year is established by the relationship between this letter and the letter from W. H. Flower, 12 October 1871.
CD had sent Flower a draft of material for chapter 7 of Origin 6th ed.
