Dear Sir

Many thanks for all the substances.

Please send me 6   2 oz Bottles with corks.—

I find that Iodic Acid produces so remarkable an effect, that I shd. very much like to try Hydriodic Acid. (2 gr. to 2 oz of doubly distilled water) if you can obtain it for me.—2

Dear Sir | yours faithfully | Ch. Darwin

The year is established by the relationship between this letter and the letter to W. W. Baxter, 8 September [1873].
Hydriodic acid produced a strong inflection of the leaves of Drosera (see Insectivorous plants, pp. 189, 190).
