To Albert Günther   12 February 1874

Down, | Beckenham, Kent.

Feb 12 1874

My dear Dr Günther

If you have no objection will you be so kind as to sign the enclosed & return it to me. If Dr Gray knows Mr Swinhoe, perhaps you will be so good as to ask him whether he will also sign it.1

yours very sincerely | Ch. Darwin

CD was asking Günther, assistant keeper of the zoological collections at the British Museum, and John Edward Gray, the keeper, to support the election of Robert Swinhoe to the Royal Society of London. Swinhoe was not successful until 1876 (Record of the Royal Society of London). See also letter from Robert Swinhoe, 9 February 1874.
