To J. D. Hooker   [15 February 1846]1

My dear H.

I have been obliged to make the order payable to Dr Joseph D Hooker at X cross,2 as they told me there is no order office at Kew—

I am sorry thus to trouble you.— | C. D.— Sunday Does Sir William know the Dean of Manchester’s address in London.?—

Dated from the relationship to the letter to J. D. Hooker, [10 February 1846].
Presumably CD meant Charing Cross post office. A money order made possible the safe transmission of small sums through the post by specifying the name of the recipient and the office at which payment was to be made.
