CD’s publisher, John Murray, had originally intended to charge twelve shillings for Descent 2d ed. but just before his sale dinner for leading booksellers he decided to reduce the price to nine shillings (see letter from R. F. Cooke, 12 November 1874).
This is a list of the numbers of CD’s books sold to the leading booksellers at Murray’s sale dinner (see letter from R. F. Cooke, 12 November 1874 and n. 4). Naturalist: Journal of researches 2d ed.
