From Dawson Turner to Ellen Hutchins   23 Dec 1811

You asked me, my dear Madam, in your last for our generic character of Pertusaria, & I neglected to send it. It is now inxxxxper, so that I am not able; but I am just now in despair about all that regards our Lichenographia, having this morning heard that a copy of Acharius’ Lichenographia Universalis is come to England, & is in the possession of Mr Lyell, who is a stranger to me, but I have still written to him to borrow it. This stops [paper and text missing] for the present, & will, I doubt, oblige us to alter much of what is already written: a sad plague, as Mr Borrer & I are now so far from each other.— Accept the kindest wishes from all in this house; that, in true English phraseology, you & all yours may enjoy a merry Christmas & a happy new year.—

Yours my dear Madam
