From Ellen Hutchins to Dawson Turner   3 Sep 1813

Sep. 3

My dear Sir,

I am not able to do more than thank you for your kind letter. I have had a very severe illness since I wrote to you. In a day or two after I sent my last letter I was seized with a bilious attack for which I was badly prepared having been so weakened by cough & other complaints. I have not the strength of a fly tho’ I am recovering & sit up every day but cannot bear exercise yet. I would write a long letter if I was able for your last has given me great pleasure. I cannot read or do any thing & am so very nervous that my hand trembles very much. I sent to Ballylickey for my specimens of Jung Lyelli that I may send some to Mr Hooker. I know he wishes for them. I also send some of F. Templetoni which is very fine near this place. I am very sorry to hear such unfavourable accounts of poor little Ellen. I hope you will be able to rear her for all our sakes. How is the little boy. I will write you a long letter when I can. My eyes are so weak & head so distressed from want of sleep I cannot say more.

Ever affectionately

Yours

E.H.
