Sir

I am in receipt of your note of the 7th. and am much obliged to you for sending me the copy of the interesting publication of your townsm⟨an⟩ which does him credit and I have no doubt it will be ⟨a⟩ very useful publication and be the means of doing much good in Galashiels— I wish ⟨a⟩ person of a similar charac⟨ter⟩ & disposition would spring up in all our manufactur⟨ing⟩ towns   they would be the mea⟨ns⟩ of giving a right direction to the minds of many who now go astray— The working man then plunges into profligacy and ⟨d⟩ebauchery for the sake of excitement. ⟨I⟩f his mind was directed to ⟨S⟩cience, to reading, to good objects, ⟨h⟩e would find & beneficial ⟨e⟩xcitement which would be ⟨g⟩ood for himself and advantageous to the community— For this reason ⟨I⟩ am delighted with the “Weekly Journal” and if there is any means of getting them in London I will order some of them thro my bookseller and see if we can find any demand for them here— If there is no communication opened at present with London I will thank the editor to send me by post a copy weekly from the beginning and ⟨I⟩ will send him a post office order for the first half year in advance

I take a great interest in Galashiels and often think of my interesting visit there, wi⟨th⟩ pleasure— I am sorry to say I have lost my friend Mr Bour⟨ ⟩ about two months ago, and I am inclined to think his hea⟨ ⟩ suffered from his great expos⟨ure⟩ to the weather in his Geologic⟨al⟩ researches in North Wales—

Believe me | Yours truly | G S Kenrick
