From Robert Chambers to William Kemp   12 June 1847

Edin:

June 12/47.

Dear Sir,

Edin: June 12/47

Dear Sir,

Many many thanks for this last interesting communication. These Yarrow terraces are exceedingly valuable, and I must endeavour some day to get a peep of them along with you, if you can accompany me, or, otherwise, by myself.

Your objections to the lake theory of Upper Tweeddale do not seem to me insuperable. I suggest that the blockage would spread over all the lower part of Teviotdale, as well as across the bottom of the Tweed. You say it would be soon worn away, to which I add that it doubtless was comparatively soon worn away, but not till the markings had been made. However it is a mere surmise as yet.

Believe me | dear sir, | your obliged and faithful | R. Chambers.
