The Prize Committee, before coming to a decision on your Method of Economizing Fuel in Gas Works No. 3117— have desired me to request from you an answer to the following questions.

Whether the same quantity of Gas foot for foot is produced by your new Method of firing communicated in the above paper? and whether there is a clear saving to the concer⁠⟨⁠n⁠⟩⁠ to the amount stated in your paper.

Of which facts it would be satisfactory to the Committee that you send me a Certificate from the Directors of the Galashiels Gas Works.
