TALBOT1343

Thursday

Carissimo 1

We think you are not aware that you went at last without the spirits of wine for the lamp, which Richard 2 did not get, thinking you would find it cheaper & better at Calais. But unless you know all that you may very likely be depending upon it till you come to some Mountain Inn, & so be very much disappointed.

I am sorry we did not tell you to ask for letters tomorrow Morning at Dover so that there is no method of getting this to you but by inclosing it to Mr Wright concluding you always go to the Ship You must allow I parted with you most heroically, quite like a Spartan Mother. Often will my thoughts wander after you in the flowery retreats of Phæacia 3 breathing “mild Etruscan Airs” when I am inhaling lamps at Almacks!4 & imbibing ennui at the Opera.

God Bless you

My Dearest & best of Sons!

Remember that all my pleasure will be in your letters, so write often even if you have only time for due righe
