My Dear Mother
When I come shall I find you ready for the tour you wish to take, whether to Auvergne or elsewhere. I find the journey tedious. The weather is intensely hot and the German postboys stupider than ever. I have been reading Woodstock 1 and Moore’s life of Sheridan 2 which I brought to Lausanne. I came accidentally thro’ one of the most beautiful vallies [sic] I ever saw, the Münster Thal otherwise Val Moutier, between Neufchatel & Basle – [illegible deletion]
The country about Clarens, Bex, Aigle & St Maurice is most lovely – I had been there before in Rainy weather & saw nothing of it. I went from Vevay [sic] to Lausanne in the steamboat pour varier. 3
It was lucky you wrote to me at Milan, how came you to guess I should be there? Dr [Caiere?] desired me to send you a thousand compliments. Mrs Seymour 4 was charmed with the Italian master you recommended – Will you desire my rooms in Albany 5 to be got ready.
Your Affte Son
