TALBOT1499

Brightwell Park

29th Oct. 1826

Dear Sir,

I regret absence from Town has prevented an earlier answer to your letter 1 of the 8th but I have requested my friend, in the City to desire the letter for you at Corfu, may be returned to Mess Hammersley 2 as you wish, and I have also begged this request may be intimated to H. <illegible> Sr F. Adam, 3 to whom one of them is writing the whole Steam Concern having been made over to that Government, at a sum much under its cost or value, but I satisfied myself affairs there were not upon a footing of liberality equal to public exigencies or the expectations of those who had embarked on it trusting, to the encouragement and provision of the Lord High Commissioner whose Govt arrangements, do not permit, the general intercourse needful for individuals, and who with-held the stipulated advantages in consequence of that innovation, which with the present system of governance proved most inconvenient, to the different departments there, and was not worth causing anxiety as to those on this side the water –

It will prove a source of amusement to me hereafter to think of my Volunteer expedition, and the services I have, endeavoured to bestow on behalf of so spirited and in promotion of the Islands & there intercourse with the Continent, but “l’homme” propose, & dieu dispose” 4 – I am most happy in having had the pleasure of meeting you during my Maritime & Steaming adventures – and beg you believe me

Dear Sir
Yours most humbly

WH Sharp
