Dear Henry
Mr Pentland 1 says that in Bolivia water boils before it is hot enough to dress a potatoe [sic] & that you cannot pump water above 17 feet. As it snows there while the sun is vertical a great many odd things may happen. He is going to measure a long arc of the Meridian in the valley of Titicaca & takes all sorts of instruments for the purpose If this finds you at Lyme 2 walk out to the Pinhay Rocks the last point of Dorset –
