TALBOT1739

My Dear Henry

I had not the least idea you were inclined to stay at Brighton, I only mentioned Dorsetshire in contradistinction to L. Abbey. If you had only said so, I should have abstained from pressing you to come here, as I think you would not do better than stay wherever you met with pleasant society, which in my opinion you get too little of. However, if you return there, no great harm will have been done, only you must be aware the society there is always much better before Xmas than after. The reason I mentioned it in every letter was for fear you should miss some of them, & not know where we were wandering. We go [illegible deletion] Thursday to Moreton, 2 & Kit 3 goes there about next Tuesday, so now I have put you in possession of all the circumstances you will do as you like. I am glad to hear Old Sackville 4 is brightened up.

When Caroline 5 read your letter to Mr F. 6 she exclaimed “Ah! que Henri est bon & innocent! 7 the ponies touched her au vif. 8 Since writing the above [illegible deletion] we have changed our plans, & you will find us here.
