My Dear Mother
I left Brighton this morning at seven and reached Town at one. My fellow traveller was Mr Spring Rice, 1 and I am going to dine with him today. I dined the other day with Lord Dudley; 2 he was in high spirits, and had a little round table that held only five. I expected to have found a letter from you in Town, but I suppose it has travelled to Brighton instead. –
I have been sitting with Jane 3 this afternoon, she says John 4 will come next week. The Talbots stay at Carclew 5 most part of the winter. –
Mr Feilding 6 I hear left Town on Wednesday – The Spanish ball at Brighton produced a good deal of money. If you were at Brighton I think it would be agreeable but it is dull being there alone. – The Lansdowne’s 7 are expected in Town on Monday according to Jane. –
Will you tell Wright 8 I have sent a person in charge of my horse who is to be helper in the stable, and groom expectant if he behaves well; He is to be boarded & lodged; I think there is a vacant room over the stables, near the gardener. I think I shall be at Lacock Wednesday morning. –
