Corby Castle 1
Sunday 20th Septr
My Dear Henry
I hope you will have found a letter I left for you yesterday at the Post office Penrith, with many changes to have it properly delivered to you, that you might not be served as you were at Bangor, where my letter must have been waiting for you ten days. I hope you will go to Lowther 2 where you are expected Tuesday or Wednesday & where you will find your letters, left in Lady Frederick Bontinck's 3 care. One day Ld & Ly Lonsdale 4 go to Carlisle races, which day they did not know themselves when I came away, but you will find that good natured kind hearted Ly Frederick prepared to shew you the beauties of the Place. I suppose you will stay there a few days & then I advise you to see this place which is beautiful. If you do, you had better cross the Ferry as we did, which shortens the distance but if you travel by the Coach you must come by Carlisle. If you make yourself known here Mrs Howard 5 will be glad to see you, but at any rate Travellers are allowed to see the6 Place every day; but others only of a Wednesday. From here you should see Naworth Castle & Lanercost Abbey. We are going to day to Netherby near Longtown 22 miles distant, stay there till Tuesday, go that day to Beatock Inn near Moffat, Wednesday to the Clydesdale Arms, Lanark, Thursday to Glasgow, Royal Hotel George Square.
I believe I said in my last you need not write to Lowther as they expect you
