TALBOT2337

London
5 April 1832

My Dear Mother

Ask Mr F. 1 to send me a groundplan of the vicarage, as Mr Porter 2 is willing to take the curacy if the house is large enough for him - I have no objection to the proposed improvement with regard to the Stove in the dining room. Last night I was at a ball at Princess Lieven's 3 it was very good, but as she had asked very few men it came to an untimely conclusion at half past two.

Lady Lansdowne 4 was there, chaperon to three ladies besides her daughter, Miss Baring, 5 Miss Spalding & Lady C. Keppel, 6 however about one o'clock she carried off Louisa & left the rest to follow their own devices & return home in their own way. The Tory Lords, as Wellington Londonderry Beresford 7 &c. mustered strong and their language was boastful & confident & I suppose meant to be overheard. Ly Londonderry 8 was gracious, wishing to obtain partners for a niece she has brought out Miss Kerr or Carr.

Danneskiold 9 looks very ill & ought to take better care of himself. -

Ly C. Barham 10 gives a ball tomorrow, & I am asked to two tonight which I shall not go to, one of them at Mrs Marten's a Banker's Lady the other at Mrs Cox's, You have heard of Cox and Greenwood. -

This is the 4th day of very sultry weather in London. How the Spring must advance at Lacock. Your mountain ash is probably gone in search of water, which it loves; you had better look for it on the banks of the River

Yours vy truly
Henry
