TALBOT2431

Laycock Abbey
7th October

My Dear Henry

Your letter from Carnarvon 1 found us in a state of great disappointment, owing to Lord V’s 2 veto which arrived the post before. Caroline 3 had so set her heart on being confined here that her low spirits were extreme for two days after being so contrariée, 4 so that could he have seen it, he would instantly have consented I am sure, for fear of doing her more mischief by the vexation than what he dreaded from country assistance, He not being imbued with a proper respect for Mr Spencer’s talents, indeed Knowing nothing about them. It is a pity it was not thought of before his departure for Cornwall, it might then have been all easily arranged. I have directed several letters to that fated Bangor, pray let me know if they have been received. Mr F. 5 wants you to give him some idea whether you return here and then whether You are likely to take the groom away again, he merely wants to know that he may make settle his affairs about taking the saddle horses into Dorset, so pray answer this to him as he outstays us.
