Lichfield,
Sunday 28th October
My Dear Mother
I am very much afraid of missing your letter containing the expected event, or at least of not hearing as soon as I might. Therefore, even if you have written already, pray write again to me at Lacock, where I expect to arrive tomorrow night, or Tuesday morning.
This city contains nothing remarkable I believe but its beautiful Cathedral peculiar in having 3 spires, of which if you wish to see a representation, the stamp at the corner of this sheet of paper contains one. I have offered to go to Melbury 1 for a few days, but I doubt if Uncle Harry 2 will be able to receive me. You see politics are growing very interesting, evidently the plot thickens & we are upon the eve of great events. As I said last year, (but nobody would listen) depend upon it we have not seen the end of all this!
There is a violent attack in the Standard upon Kit, 3 who is accused with <sic> converting the county of Glamorgan into a close borough, & monopolising the representation of it – It then goes on to deny that he is a descendant of the illustrious Talbots.
Yours very affly
Henry
