My Dear Henry
I am most happy that Constance 1 should make use of my Sedan Chair 2 – there used to be Livery great coats for the Chairmen, but I suppose they are Moth eaten long ago, as I have not used it since we went abroad. –
The Flood lowered enough on Monday & Tuesday for Fitzsimons 3 to plant the four large trees, but Tuesday night the raging of the Elements began again, & the Flood recommenced, & the ground is so saturated that it is difficult to dig even in the Kitchen Garden. The rest of this week will be occupied in repairing the Fences out of which these Hedge row trees were taken, at Wyck <sic> Farm. I promised to tell you this, instead of his writing, & The Nursery is to begin on Monday. There are quantities of young trees that want thinning every where. What shall be done with them? Shall I have them planted in Hedge rows? or at Nethermore? or in your Nursery? Tho’ they are I suppose too tall for that. Quantities of Sycomore <sic> sow themselves everywhere hereabouts, will you have them planted or thrown away? I hear that Mr Harman 4 is doing things in bad taste I enclose an answer to Mr Montgomerie 5 to tell him that as Mr Moore 6 could not, of course nobody else. I thought it would be less trouble to you if I wrote it & you frank it on to him
