My Dear Henry

I dare say Mr Talbot 1 of Athlone’s Speech passed with your Constituents for yours. At Devizes they are very angry with Mr Lorke for not having yet spoke (they do not care upon what) & say they will pelt him when he comes there next. So much for the sense of a reformed constituency.

Did you ever say to Caroline 2 that the Bible is perfectly well translated? (for practical purposes I know it is) if so Why did the famous Dr Lowth 3 publish a new Translation of Isaiah Which learned men think Should be substituted for the Old? Answer this.

Have you any objection to my altering the curve of the walk through the Orchard? There is not bend enough to be graceful, & now would be a good time to do it, because We are dabbling in gravel having been new covering the Shrubbery walk, which wanted it very bad, and I have a man of my own for mes memms plaisirs 4 which additional hands would make quick work. I am very sorry F. is ill so long – & much more so to hear of Constance’s 5 bad cold, & that she would not appear at the Soirée Dausante at Lansdowne House. 6 Change of air is the best cure. I am sadly afraid you will not get down here before Caroline goes.
