Dear Sir
The idea had already occurred to me of prefixing Lord Althorp’s 1 amendment of last night – to my motion for the 9th of May – Indeed I have almost made up my mind to limit it to a currency enquiry altogether. My notion has always been that an enquiry into a silver standard & <ill. abbreviation> notes & making B. of E. notes legal tender from every one but themselves – wd end in the adoption of those measures, & I think I shall limit my motion to them – tho’ perhaps not enumerating more than the silver standard & a more perfect system of banking & issue – Under these circumstances I shall I think ask Baring 2 to second me – In those views I think, indeed am sure, you will agree with me, & I rejoice that our sentiments coincide so much on this occasion. What a Delightful speech Lambert 3 made last night I have heard nothing more really & genuinely beautiful for a long time –
Yours vy faithfully
with many thanks for yr communication
