My Dear Henry
Our Play is to be enacted to night & I am so very much disappointed you are not here for it, I am sure it would amuse you & Constance & Amandier 1 still more. I thought you would only have staid a few hours in town What can any body want in London that is just come from Paris? This is a most difficult house to turn into a Private Theatre & therefore we deserve the more credit for our ingenuity – particularly as Mr F. 2 objected to any thing that would makes [sic] holes in the walls or dirty the carpets. Therefore our genius was much confined. It is really ve[ry] 3 vexatious you cannot be here in time. Most of the Dramatis Personae disperse tomorrow, and Charlotte & Mr Traherne 4 come. She is very anxious to make acquaintance with Constance, so I do hope you will arrive before she goes – Mr F. is not well at all & is going to take an emetic, a sad contrast to our gaiety. Write directly to say what day you will come, that your rooms may be comfortable.
