TALBOT2954

Vienna

18 July 1834

My dear Henry

I send you the Nos 4 & 5 of Flora Italica 1 – are you taking in another copy? I told Bertoloni 2 always to send me two meaning one for you, but I think you told me you subscribed to it in Italy, in which case there will be a third or superfluous set going on between us which if not wanted had better be bestowed on some worthy person who will go on with it – Detur digniori. 3

I also enclose a few seeds. I went one day to the Kahlenberg 4 which is a very interesting mountain & found Coronilla coronata & varia, Sorbus Aria & Torminalis, Linum flavum & tenuifolium, Aster amellus, Allium flavum, Anthericum Liliago, Dorycnium herbareum, & various other un-English plants – bupleurums, Danaæ, Compositæ obscuræ &c also Quercus Cerris Austriaca – pubescens – Pinus nigricans or Pallasii, & beautiful views –

I hope Horatia 5 is well enough to be off before this time – & that I shall soon hear of the party assembled at Geneva. They say here Switzerland is in a very demoralised state. 6

Mr Endlicher 7 is much obliged to you for your specimens – he is going to the baths of Mehadia in the Banat of Temeswar 8 a most interesting country & I hope will bring back loads of seeds – he is also a great Philolog.

Jacquin 9 is studying your Euphorbia – this year is so hot & dry few seeds come to perfection but some rare ones I hope will.
