My Dearest Henry

You must expect une affreuse écriture 1 because I have had a cechute 2 owing to catching cold & the day I had the douche for my hand when Horatia 3 finished my letter to you, and this is the first time I have been able to write. I shall be excessively [finalent in fatu?] as you may suppose & could?] myself till I got into the South. These Baths have had wonderful effect on Horatia & Lord V. & Mr F. 4 indeed their fame is old as the Romans. I have been the greatest part of the time in bed but the first few days continued to see some of the beauties of the environs. I rather expected Constance 5 would have journalized me a letter by this time. I am curious to know how you spent your time the first few days after you left us, as you were on the [illegible] still at Beaune or rather I should say no further I hope you found a letter at Manheim from Horatia to C– the V’s go on the 20th by Mt Cenis & the Col de Tande & stay a few days at Turin. I shall get away as soon after us I can but bear to go so cold a way & believe me I shall either go down on the Rhine from Lyons to save me fatigue or else by Grenoble & the warmest road by Aix en Provence. I know not where to tell you to direct till we have decided on the road but I long to hear from you. I am so tired I can hold the pen no longer – God bless you Dearest

I was five days in bed & suffered all over again what I did at Geneva am just now reviving
