My Dear Talbot

I am quite provoked to have been left in the dark so completely in respect to your parliamentary prospects – But I think it may not yet be too late & I have written to Town on the subject at once – If I were you I should go up immediately – call on Lord Holland & L^d Musgrave or Duncannon ¹ If he is returned from Derby where he was called by John Ponsonby’s ² illness – If you take this hint call at Ellice’s ³ Cleveland Sq. where you will find Mulgrave P Thomson ⁴ or some other friend who may tell you what offices arise – but promptitude is everything My return is Sep & I think so is that of Pryse ⁵ also

I should be delighted to visit you & see how you play Abbot.
