My dear Sir,
On the whole I incline rather to the form of a treatise on the subject 2 but this is mere matter of taste and any way your views cannot fail to be highly interesting. I hope however you will allude to Poisson’s paper 3 & shew that your methods are more general than his.
The brother of Mr Jerrard 4 called upon me a short time ago & expressed his anxiety that I should look into the merits of his brother’s works, but the subject is one I am not familiar with and it will give me a great deal of trouble.
I am, my dear Sir,
Yours very truly,
