My dear Henry
What Thymus or Satureja is this? – it comes last from Abbotsbury, 1 from whence I get a small box of interesting specimens weekly – this week I have had Lobelia purpurea, Lavatera agrigentina & sylvestris Leptospermum juniperinum, Statice monopetala, spatulata, mucronata, purpurata, cuneata, &c. beautiful Belladonnas, a profusion of boughs of Azorean jessamine (our latest successful acclimatization in gardening) a fine red & green heath, name unknown, a Lythrum of which <I> 2 send you a stalk – Colchicum montanum, myrtles of course, Sternbergia colchiciflora, cum multis aliis 3.
Send me an account of what your garden contains, dead or alive, Is your suite of Euphorbias much encreased – do the herbaceous Hibiscus which I know you have, flower with you, as with us they uniformly fail. I have received Mr Thellusson’s 4 printed Catalogue from Florence, it is a very nice collection for a private garden. Are you fond of Carlina lanata as I could give it you.
Shall you come to town to meet your family when they return? I hope they will stay here a little while as I despair of getting to Lacock –

I must not omit Sanvitalia procumbens & a very pretty variety of Celosia neither feather nor cockscomb but a sort of lilac tuft. – Hooker’s journal 5 has stopped. –
