TALBOT3378

Red Lion Court, Fleet St
Oct. 12. 1836

Sir,

I am very much concerned, & mortified at the mistake respecting your Paper 1 on Crystals; as also is my Assistant Mr Gyde. He has been over to Richmond to explain to Mr Children 2 that it was entirely through an oversight of his, at which he is the more distressed, as both your Letter (which he has shown to Mr Children) and his answer to it during my absence at Bristol, clearly show that there could have been no ambiguity in the instructions.

We can only throw ourselves upon your indulgence and that of the Council, perfectly aware that the possibility of such a mistake ought to be carefully guarded against.

I know not what can best be done to obviate in any degree the disagreeable consequences of the error. Perhaps if the Council should think proper not to notice, it might in a considerable degree escape attention till the Part is published. – I suppose I feel much uneasiness about it, standing as I do in the situation of Printer to the Society.

I am much occupied just now in getting ready the 2nd Part of Scientific Memoirs 3 for the 1st of Novr – as soon as I have that Part off my hands, I will look to Fresnel, 4 which I am much indebted to you for suggesting.

I am Sir Yours most respectfully
Richard Taylor

H. F. Talbot Esqre
Lacock Abbey,
Chippenham.
