TALBOT3914

Saturday

My Dear Henry

I never saw such gloomy weather in summer as we had till the last moment of July. It was cold & dark as November, besides pouring all day & night. But now the bright change makes me long for the Country & especially for Laycock Abbey which excels all places in hot weather. On Tuesday Evening we leave town stay Wednesday with Mrs Gent who has taken a cottage near Windsor, go Thursday to Tottenham Park, Friday to Bowood, 1 & Saturday to you. I hope fine weather will not be exhausted before we get there.

Lord V. 2 was discontented with his Photographs because not having been fixed because you went to Devizes they faded. The Lace 3 you sent me was so well done that Horatia 4 immediately discovered the subjects had been wetted, I suppose in blocking them. I hope to enclose the copper leaf in this, I could not find out for a long time who sold such a thing – Tell Constance 5 the mat will go down soon, very soon & I hope they will not get a tumble in the mean time

Yrs

I don’t know whether the enclosed copper leaf is right if not it does not signify except in the delay to you, for the cost is only a shilling –

I will try again before I close this letter
