My Dear Henry

I return the Letter which I should have done yesterday only that Louisa ¹ paid me a long visit which left me no time. I suppose this place is more convenient for you than Brighton would have been in the present state of its rail road. Lord L. ² goes to morrow day in State as L^d Lieutenant to the County Meeting at Devizes. I don’t find they have anything to propose but a general subscription a crude sort of Political œconomy, however there is nothing else for it.

They have condemned Beaumont Smith ³ to be transported for Life & the Man who took a penny from a letter to the same!!!!

I gave audience yesterday to sixteen of Horatia’s ⁴ Old Worthies who came to receive her Potatoes. The Women of these parts are decidedly better than the Men – I send Has ⁵ Letter ⁶ from Venice
