My dear Sir,
As I am about printing off a sheet upon the moon, can you offer an opinion upon the mountains of Aristarchus, 1 on which I spoke to you the other evening? I enclose 2 you part of a letter which was printed on the subject in the Notices of the Astron: Soc: & I have since seen the bright spot most distinctly. Your idea of a polished surface (if I understand you rightly) seems to meet the question.
You must excuse my thus troubling you, because of course the question is one of great interest to me.
I beg to remain, My dear Sir, Your’s [sic] faithfully,
W. H. Smyth: –
