Lacock Abbey
Wednesday –
My dear Henry
I wrote to you yesterday but having put my letter aside meaning to seal it after dinner I never once thought of it till I was getting into bed. –
I have received both yours 1 by the post & that which George 2 brought me an hour ago – and we are all in the bustle of preparation to obey your summons. For the children 3 it was almost too great a pleasure to be told one day that they are going to London the next! – Any movement is charming to them; & of London in particular, they have most pleasing recollections. It will be strange to take up our old quarters – and I should have liked the situation of Welbeck St. better – but I feel that you are right about the children’s rooms. It would have been sadly hot for them in the Attic Story – and this house (with the additional space gained since last year) will be very comfortable. I cannot be ready before the train you advise me against – namely the ¼ before 2 – so I must not mind the waiting – That hour suits best too for the children’s dinner – I shall send 2 maids in the morning – but Price 4 will go up with me – and she thinks there will be no difficulty about the Inventory. I quite agree about locking up all the china &c that we don’t mean to use –
Your affectionate
Constance –
