My dear Henry
It occurs to me that I may perhaps save trouble by mentioning before you leave London that my funds are exhausted at the Melksham Bank. and I shall be very glad of a remittance as soon as it suits you to make it – Charles 1 has been very good & happy today, but still too young to comprehend what we meant about his birthday – only he duly appreciated the presents which his sisters made him – Ela’s 2 was a little kite decorated with ribbons, in which we were greatly assisted by Mrs Moore 3 – and it had very great success flying in the South Gallery for it was too cold to fly it out of doors – Rosamond 4 gave him a little horse which she has kept full 3 years – ever since Weymth and of which she was particularly fond. And Matilda 5 gave him a little rolling man which she bought with her own sixpence at Cheltenham the Summer before last – I think they had more pleasure in giving them than Charles in receiving them. –
They had a Charlotte de pommes for dinner according to promise but Rosamond declared that though very good, an apple pie would have been still better.
We have had lovely weather today & I hope it has also been bright with you – It seems such a long time since you left us!
Your affectionate
Constance –
