Lacock Abbey
Friday –
My dear Henry
I write a hasty line to tell you that we are really come home today – I think the little Corsham Station looked unusually bustling – 2 carriages of Mr Lawes’s 1 and our own cart – waiting for us – We dined at Clifton 2 & came by the train which leaves Bristol 20 minutes before 4 – What a charming day it has been! & so was yesterday – though the wind is again still North East – The children 3 were much perplexed with their mingled feelings of joy & sorrow – I am sure they were very sorry to leave Clifton – though as we approached home the anticipation of violet gathering &c &c predominated – And they were anxiously wishing for tomorrow morning when they might visit their gardens – I am wanting to hear again of Lady Elisabeth’s 4 Influenza. – do please ask Horatia 5 to write & tell me –
I am going to devote myself to Ela’s health – selon les [illegible] de 6 Mr Smerdon – She is tired of course with the excitement of today –
In a few days I shall allow William 7 to take his leave – the month being up today – & I shall do perfectly well without him – I mean to make William Humphries 8 page for the occasion –
Yr affectionate
Constance.
