TALBOT5376

November 19th 1875

Dear Sir

In reply to your letter regarding the sheets of text in course of publication I am sorry to say that as yet only one Sheet, that, of the first tablet has been passed for press. The remainder are as yet uncorrected. Mr Smith 1 has taken his M.S.S. and proofs with him and will correct the latter on this journey and forward to England –

Messrs Harrison 2 the printers have orders from Mr Smith to forward me copies of the texts and on receipt of them I will at once forward them to you

I enclose a proof sheet of the “Fifth Tablet” – which I have examined with original, and, which is I think fairly correct.

I am about to publish in the Journal of the Society the XIIth Isdubar legend, which is of a curious, and important character.

We have as yet received no news of Mr Smiths arrival in Constantinople; but are daily expecting to hear –

A new and very fairly engraved preserved inscription of <cuneiform text> Rim Apu (<illegible>) the son of Kudur-mabup has been brought to England and we hope to gain the same for the Museum – It is of the usual dedicatory character.

I have this morning found some fragments of a Litany containing invocations to the Deities Lakhmu and Lakhamu – who occur in the creation tablet – There are yet many things of importance in the home collection. –

With best wishes
Believe me
Your’s Truly

W Boscawen
